Job title: ESMP Coordinator (FDI)

Duty Station : Islamabad

Task to be performed:

  1. Development a comprehensive ESMP plan at National and Provincial levels in line with the Laws and policies of National and Provincial Government
  2. Provide technical support to the Federal and Provincial EPI Programs to improve coordination, reporting and improving the immunization waste management system.
  3. Conduct waste management mapping exercise highlighting location, functionality and lifespan of incinerators and other waste management tools/methods in use for immunization waste management. This would include how the waste gets to disposal sites and availability of HR and fuel for disposal.
  4. Development of operational deployment plan and Implementation plan for the decommissioning of the cold chain equipment’s at National, Provincial, Districts and Health facilities levels.
  5. Need assessment for the installation of environmentally friendly incinerators, support UNICEF iSC team for the procurement of the required incinerators and installation/operationalization of incinerators to improve waste management.
  6. Supervision and implementation of Environmental Audit and development of improvement plan based on the recommendations of Environmental Audit.
  7. Development of immunization waste management reporting tools in consultation with the National and Provincial Governments and capacity building of the staff at all levels on tools and best immunization waste management practices.
  8. Monitoring and supportive supervision on the implementation of the ESMP plan and reporting periodically on progress.
  9. Any other task assigned by the Provincial and UNICEF related to ESMP and Immunization Waste Management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in Environmental Sciences, Natural and Biological Sciences, Public Health, Social Sciences, Environmental Engineering or other relevant areas of specialization.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in conducting Environmental Social Mobilization Plan or Hospital Waste Management.
  • Previous experiences in working in healthcare/EPI waste management environment in Pakistan.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Skills in stakeholder coordination and management.
  • Strong skills in use of Ms Office suite.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
