Empowering Youth for Peace and Development (EYPAD)

EYPAD project is conceived and funded by Plan Pakistan and is further developed & implemented by ASK Development.

Plan Pakistan, established in 1937, Plan Pakistan is a child-centered international NGO that strives for a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies respecting people's rights and dignity. Plan Pakistan helps realize this potential by building the foundations for long-term, sustainable improvements in the lives of children and the communities in which they live.

Project Goal

“To develop a national group of youth leaders who absorb values of responsible global citizenship and can effect change towards a more conscientious society “

Project Target Youth

The primary target group of the project is young people aged 18-25 years with equal gender representation. The project will draw participants both from public and private schools of the project areas, to form the local

network. The project will also attempt to include minorities from the project areas.

Introduction

Due to complex combination of socio-political and economic challenges, youth in Pakistan is perhaps more vulnerable to different unhealthy activities and problems.  This is made worse by physical isolation from events and perspectives that surround them. The national and international experts reflect a broad agreement on the following five causes of youth disaffection and hostile behaviour in Pakistan’s context:

  • Barriers to information and outreach
  • Isolation and absence of voice
  • Limited world-view
  • Lack of language and communication skills
  • Unfamiliarity with technology for development

This project is an effective effort to address these five areas. It will empower youth for peace and development through increasing their horizon, exposure to information, training and networking with other nation’s youth.

EYPAD looks at four distinct result areas that all build toward the desired purpose:

1.      Greater awareness of world issues and appreciation of diverse perspectives:

2.      Linkages with peers at the local, national and global levels:

3.      Language and investigative skills, along with ability to express views with confidence:

4.      Familiarity with appropriate ICT tools and ability to use multi-media communication:
